Welcome to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. Since 1980, the Conservancy has worked together with dedicated citizens, fellow park agencies, federal, state, and local government, and community-based organizations to preserve, protect, restore, enhance and make accessible over 60,000 acres of public parkland from the edge of the Mojave Desert to the Pacific Ocean. This area--known as the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Zone and Rim of the Valley Trail Corridor--encompasses the whole of the Santa Monica Mountains, the Simi Hills, the Verdugo Mountains, and significant portions of the Santa Susana and San Gabriel Mountains.
Almost every acquisition of public parkland that the Conservancy has made tells a story of citizen involvement, community commitment, and government cooperation. The Conservancy is proud of its unparalleled public participation processes, and its ability to bring parties together to help form an interlinking system of urban, rural, and river parks, open space, trails, and wildlife habitats that are easily accessible to all people. The beauty of our region is known throughout the world. Our efforts have ensured that future generations will be able to experience, explore, and find and sanctuary in the magnificent mountains and natural areas that mean so much to the quality of life we all enjoy.
We urge you to get out and explore and enjoy the many parks and open spaces the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy has to offer.
